Before you start — medicines
Many herbs and high-dose vitamins are not safe in pregnancy. Please show any product to your doctor first.
- Keep taking the medicines your doctor prescribed — never stop or change them because of a supplement.
- Show the supplement to your doctor or pharmacist if you take medicine for sugar, blood pressure, thyroid, heart, blood thinning, depression or epilepsy.
- Start one new product at a time, so you know what suits you.
- Stop and see a doctor if you get a rash, swelling, stomach upset, palpitations or anything unusual.
- Tell the lab you take biotin (hair/nail supplements) — it can change thyroid and heart blood-test results. Stop it 2–3 days before a test if your doctor agrees.
